Citroen DS Wild Rubis - conceptul primului SUV din gama DS a fost dezvăluit

Citroen va expune în cadrul Salonului Auto de la Shanghai conceptul DS Wild Rubis. Prototipul anticipează primul SUV din gama premium DS a francezilor.

Aşa cum vă anunţam, Citroen va expune în cadrul Salonului Auto de la Shanghai, programat să îşi deschidă porţile săptămâna viitoare, un nou concept, botezat DS Wild Rubis. Este lesne de înţeles că avem în faţă prima încarnare a viitorului SUV lansat sub logo-ul premium DS, după cum o recunosc şi oficialii brandului francez.

Noul concept combină liniile unui coupe DS pur, cu atitudinea şi proporţiile unui SUV. Şi fiindcă veni vorba despre proporţii, trebuie să precizăm că DS Wild Rubis măsoară 4.7 metri lungime, 1.95 metri lăţime şi 1.59 metri înălţime. Ampatamentul ajunge la 2.9 metri şi garantează spaţiu pentru patru pasageri.

Profilul este dominat de o linie cromată mai lungă, în vreme ce aspectul frontal împrumută multe detalii de la un alt concept Citroen, Numero 9, prezentat în urmă cu un an, tot în cadrul unui salon din China, cel de la Beijing.


Tot în partea din faţă impresionează grila cromată cu aspect tridimensional, care leagă cele două blocuri optice sub formă de bumerang, echipate cu lumini LED. Acelaşi tratament cu lumini LED şi în partea posterioară, acolo unde stopurile fac parte din hayonul înălţat şi au fost înconjurate cu un suport cromat.

Nu puteau lipsi nici evacuările cromate şi nici jantele de 21 de inch. Conceptul este desăvârşit de o vopsea texturată botezată ”Ruby Red”, ce capătă reflexii diferite în funcţie de gradul de lumină cu care este tratată.

Citroen DS Wild Rubis concept SUV debuts on the Shanghai Auto Show

The Citroen DS Wild Rubis just debuted on the Shanghai Auto Show. More on the car in a minute. The pictures of the DS Wild Rubis are not that good. That is not our fault. It is Citroen’s fault. See that X%&* purple-light ornament reflecting in the window? Bad memories! With that thing hanging right above the vehicle it is just impossible to get one shot right.

Design however is very good. Strong straight lines a welcome departure from French softness. Fat chrome strip going down at C-pillar an interesting feature. Huge wheels always good. The production version of the DS Wild Rubis will be based on the Citroen DS5, and it will likely be called DS X7.

The Citroen DS5 and the DS X7 will be made in China by the Chang’an-PSA joint venture. The China-made DS5 will debut on the Chinese car market in the third quarter of this year, the DS X7 will follow in 2014.

As if that light wasn’t bad enough. Suddenly a group of men in suites appeared to block the lenses even more. What is Citroen trying to hide here? The DA Wild Rubis Concept is ‘powered’ by a plug-in hybrid system based around a 225 1.6 turbo and a 75hp electric motor, good for a combines 290hp. All right & done that; the production version will get the 163hp 1.6 turbo that also powered the DS5.

Citroen Shares Technical Details on DS Wild Rubis Concept

Touted as a crossover with “ground-breaking” technology, the Citroen DS Wild Rubis concept was unveiled at the Shanghai motor show, but up until this point, we had but a few photos to contend with, and limited information. Now, though, the French automaker has released full details on the concept which they say “allies attractive design with unique sensations behind the wheel.”

After reading the official press release, we can tell you the Wild Rubis has a hybrid drivetrain, which uses a 225 hp 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine as well as a 70 hp electric motor located on the rear axle. The latter can power the car by itself, with no internal combustion intrusion, for up to 50 km or 31 miles. Its lithium-ion battery can be separately charged from a regular socket, so this is actually a plug-in hybrid.

However, Citroen would have us believe that it is also both sporty to drive and very green and economical. They back the two claims up with two figures: 295 hp combined and 43 g/km CO2. The petrol engine isn’t directly connected to the rear wheels, which are only powered by the electric motor. This means instant response when grip is lost (it usually runs in front-wheel drive only mode), as the rear wheels spin into life and try to steer the vehicle back on course.

For more serious off-roading, there’s also a locked all-wheel drive mode, which keeps all four wheels turning at the same time.

The design is a unique and unmistakably-Citroen-blend of the current DS range’s styling, with even more aggressive styling cues, and headlights which they probably spent a lot of time designing, with their C-shaped LED daytime running lights. From the side, the sheer length of the vehicle becomes apparent, accentuated by the long bonnet and low roof line – it is 4.7 meters long, which means it’s only marginally shorter than a VW Touareg.
